Reporting Structure Accountant
Role Summary
Responsible for managing the hospital’s accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely
collection of payments, and maintaining strong relationships with patients, medical
schemes, and internal departments.
Key work output and accountabilities
• Work within set collections targets and collect outstanding debt to negate bad debt.
• Contact Medical Schemes to deal with short-payments, identify the root cause of
the short-payments.
• Contact private patients to follow up on outstanding payments.
• Manage Medikredit reports.
• Provide feedback on all cases older than 90days.
• Identify accounts to be handed over for debt collection.
• Review and understand the debtors age analysis in terms of managing debtors’
days.
• Ensure correct data is sent to the Medical Schemes when updates are done.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Alternative Reimbursement Model (ARM)
manuals.
• Knowledge and understanding of the NHN Billing Guide.
• Daily payment allocations to patient accounts.
• Process refund request documents as per the company policy and procedure.
• Build mutually beneficial relationships with Medical Schemes and/or external
stakeholder organizations/bodies, allocated under portfolio and understand
requirements and rules.
• Active involvement in own professional developments to maintain a satisfactory
level of skill and knowledge.
Skills profile
Education
• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 certificate.
Work experience
• Three years experience in Credit Control in the Private Healthcare environment
• An intermediate to advanced level of Computer proficiency in MS Office
applications.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel Literacy (Pivots, Vlookup and filtering etc)
• Knowledge or ability to learn medical terminology
• Knowledge of CPT/ICD coding
